How much does a slow website cost? Connect performance with completed orders

Use your own conversion funnel, realistic mobile tests, and Core Web Vitals to prioritize improvements without promising fixed revenue gains.

How much does a slow website cost? Connect performance with completed orders

Waiting can cost customers, but there is no universal revenue loss for every extra second. Measure where your visitors stall and what changes after a specific improvement.

Interpret historical statistics carefully

Google cited a 2016 mobile sample in which about 53% of visits were abandoned when loading exceeded three seconds. It is not a current fixed rate for every restaurant. Illustratively, 10,000 visits × 2% conversion × TWD 400 produces TWD 80,000 sales. A measured rise to 2.4% would add 40 orders and TWD 16,000 revenue, before fulfillment costs; it is not a promised outcome.

Test the customer’s mobile journey

Office Wi-Fi and high-end laptops can hide problems. Try a midrange phone on a variable mobile connection. Prioritize the business name, categories, products, and main action over an opening video. Measure initial visits, return visits, cart changes, and payment redirects separately.

Find the bottleneck before upgrading hosting

Oversized photos, third-party scripts, repeated queries, slow APIs, and insufficient hosting can all contribute. Inspect requests and performance traces to distinguish downloads, server waiting, and main-thread work. A bigger server will not solve every 8 MB menu image.

Optimize without showing stale transaction data

Serve appropriately sized WebP or AVIF images, reserve dimensions, prioritize the main image, and defer below-the-fold content. Split unnecessary code and remove unused plugins. Cache public content carefully while keeping member data, carts, and orders isolated; revalidate prices and availability on the server at checkout.

Check both experience and outcomes

The referenced good Core Web Vitals thresholds are LCP ≤ 2.5 seconds, INP ≤ 200 milliseconds, and CLS ≤ 0.1 at the 75th percentile. These measure content display, responsiveness, and layout stability, not total download time. Combine diagnostics with real-phone tests and completed-order funnels under comparable traffic and availability.

Before you start

  • Test a realistic mobile connection.
  • Locate download, server, or interaction bottlenecks.
  • Validate cache privacy and fresh checkout data.
  • Compare experience metrics and completed orders.
